Louisiana motorcycle helmet law
In Louisiana, anyone under 18 who operates or rides on a motorcycle must wear
a helmet that is secured with a chin strap at all times when the bike is in
motion. In addition to chin straps, all helmets must consist of lining, padding,
and a visor, and any other specifications that the Commissioner of the
Department of Motor Vehicles may require. Any person 18 or older who chooses not
to wear a helmet must be covered by a health insurance policy with medical
benefits of at least $10,000 for bodily injuries and must furnish proof of the
policy to any law enforcement officer on request. Because the Commissioner is
free to add further helmet specifications, it is best to check with the
Department of Motor Vehicles before riding a motorcycle on Louisiana roadways.
